THINK...
[Masters Project] Branding, Packaging and Web Design
ROLE: STUDENT DESIGNER (MASTERS DEGREE)
PERIOD: JANUARY - DECEMBER 2012
LOCATION: LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
This project was inspired by my experience at Tourism Concern, a UK charity dealing with tourism issues. Think… is an awareness brand that provides future decision - makers with readily available information on the detrimental effects of tourism. It aims to enable the audience to take action for more sustainable tourism practices and ultimately contribute in creating awareness in current decision - makers.
The objectives of the project are to inform the target audience of tourism practices and the needs of coastal communities that are dependent on tourism, to promote practices that are human and environment centered, and to enable future decision - makers to take action for more sustainable tourism practices and ultimately influence current travellers.
The website and mobile applications consists mostly of large images and illustrations. The text is kept to a minimal in most areas. There will be an option for the user to access more information through the “i” button. The menu will also use icons instead of type, keeping it consistent with the design concept
The online community and blog gets the audience involved by providing helpful online tools and resources, finding and implementing solutions to different issues, and improving tourism practices. The blog can be viewed and when the user is signed in, and contributions can be made.
Audience members will receive the Traveller’s “Manifesto” Passport when booking a trip with participating tour operators. These will be given out as take - away gifts along with the luggage tags. The passport will serve as a reminder of the issues that audiences will have to be aware about. It will also allow audiences to fill in pages with personal anecdotes, which can be returned to think…for some sort of reward or recognition. These anecdotes can also be added on the website and through the mobile application. The brand may use the most active users to recognize or reward.
