Madrasah Centre of Excellence
Curriculum Design
ROLE: LEAD DESIGNER + CREATIVE/ART DIRECTOR
PERIOD: JULY 2014 - JANUARY 2018
LOCATION: VANCOUVER, CANADA + LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
In the West, Madrasah usually refers to a specific type of religious school or college for the study of the Islamic religion, though this may not be the only subject studied. Based in London (United Kingdom). the Madrasah Centre of Excellence (MCE) delivers and maintains the strategies for a global madrasah program. Its global structure provides focus and acts as a central place for madaris to seek help and support in the running of their institutions.
To inspire interest and learning, the concept for the lessons was a fun, integrated design with pullout information, group work and activities. MCE's curriculum was also colour-coded, highlighting its six main topic sections. After the approval of twelve sample lessons, my role as the lead designer included working with the MCE's curriculum and learning resources teams to develop and modify the concept design for textbooks, teacher guides, workbooks and worksheets from Kindergarten to Grade 10. This resulted in the design of 524 lessons (printed and interactive PDFs formats) and 12 workbooks (for the ages of 4 to 7 years, in printed formats).
